In December 2007 a community committee was created under the working title of Discover DeLand. The purpose of the committee was to package, brand and market DeLand to attract more leisure and business travelers into our area.

To ensure success, the original committee was formed from a variety of local stakeholders including representatives from The City of DeLand, Volusia County, Stetson University, West Volusia Tourism Authority, Mainstreet DeLand, the DeLand Cultural Arts Center, West Volusia Historical Society and various business owners in and around DeLand as well as local citizens.

With a recently appointed Executive Board, part one of a large scale marketing campaign is now under way to introduce Discover DeLand on a local level and garner interest and participation from citizens and business owners from the area. Part two of the campaign will begin early in 2010, using the newly design brand and will reach into state, national and international markets.

During both campaigns, Discover DeLand’s board members will continue to compile survey information with assistance form Stetson University and research how other small towns across the nation have successfully attracted leisure and business travelers who’s dollars help to keep the local economies thriving. It is our wish to secure a fair share of this travel business without compromising the important qualities of the local attractions that make DeLand so special.
